Why We Love FAAS
The Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter, better known as FAAS, is Good Dog Dad’s featured rescue organization. Based on the little island city of Alameda, CA, the shelter has a hard-working team dedicated to rescuing dogs, cats, and rabbits. FAAS shelters and cares for abandoned companion animals, finds them new homes, and prevents animal cruelty through education and outreach. Through their efforts, they are able to save nearly 1,000 animals each year!
Earlier this year, we fostered Scooby, an 85lb bundle of German Shepherd and Great Dane love, while FAAS remodeled their facilities. While an older dog in failing and allergy problems prevented Scooby from being the perfect match for our home, he eventually found his forever home. Be sure to check out the Friends of the Alameda Animal Shelter list of available animals to see if there is a dog that might suit your family.

Why Rescue a Shelter Dog
Adopting a shelter dog is a rewarding experience that comes with many benefits. Shelter dogs come in various mixtures of breeds, ages, and sizes. They provide an excellent range for choosing the pet that perfectly fits your lifestyle and preferences. Adopting from a shelter supports the admirable cause of rescuing animals and combating overpopulation in shelters, giving a deserving dog a second chance for a loving home. These dogs often show immense gratitude and affection towards their rescuers, forming a bond that is uniquely strong and heartfelt. Additionally, shelter dogs usually come vaccinated, spayed, or neutered, saving you these upfront medical expenses. Some states even require rescued animals to be spayed or neutered before adoption. By choosing to adopt, you not only gain a loyal companion but also contribute positively to the broader animal community, setting a compassionate example for others to follow.
